The NetJets Pilot Assistance Program (NJPAP) was formally established in mid-August 2006 via Letter of Agreement 02-001 signed by NetJets Aviation (NJA) and NJASAP. The creation of this important program provides for an environment in which professional airmen and women are given an opportunity to recover from Substance Abuse/Dependence (SAD) while maintaining their careers. The foundation of the program is a cooperative and mutually supportive relationship between pilots, their union, management and the FAA.
The program’s success and credibility depends on respect for confidentiality and anonymity of pilot participants. Pilots are solely responsible for their recovery, continued sobriety, and sustained remission. Additionally, they are accountable for any behavior contrary to applicable laws, regulations or company policy. Aviation safety will always take priority over any individual’s circumstances or company situation.
NetJets and NJASAP are firmly committed to a supportive and mutually cooperative relationship that fosters a favorable environment whereby pilots with potential substance abuse concerns are encouraged to seek help for themselves and fellow pilots afflicted with the disease. Such an environment will allow for early identification, intervention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, FAA medical re-certification and monitored return to flight duties prior to any significant consequences of the disease damaging the individual, his or her family, co-workers, the company, its clients, or aviation safety.
NJASAP has pledged to support NJPAP by providing education programs for the membership, offering support for committees and participants, identifying individuals at risk, leading interventions, and ensuring rigorous monitoring of pilots participating in the program. The company will support NJPAP with continuing education efforts for its employees, training for participants, and assistance for pilots with this disease.
Moreover, independent medical consultation and the participation of Virtual Flight Surgeons will ensure respectful and equitable treatment of involved pilots, the distribution of prudent medical expertise, and the cultivation of a relationship with the appropriate FAA liaison. The NJPAP will establish NetJets as the industry leader in this area of aviation safety, which other aviation organizations will be welcome to emulate.
The NJPAP Mission
The NJPAP was created to meet four goals:
1. Save Lives
2. Protect Careers
3. Enhance Company Operations, and
4. Provide a Level of Safety that is Second to None.
The committee seeks to accomplish its goals through education, early identification, treatment and assisting in the recovery of pilots who suffer from substance abuse or dependency issues. |
